When was this song written and recorded?

This song was re-written in early 2010 as a charity single to raise money for Haiti. Waving Flag was recorded on Feburary 18, 2010 and released March 12.2010.

Why can this song be classified as a protest song? What is it portesting?

This song is protesting against all the pain that Haiti had gone through during the earthquake. Its protesting how some people lost their everything, lost their homes, parents, and went into poverty. You can tell all these artists care about this disaster because of how they got together to protest this event through a song. The song gives us hope to keep standing and do all we can to help bring everyone in Haiti together again.

What is the tone mode of this song?

The tone of this song is very hopeful and opptimistic because when the lyrics and music is put together, its very hopeful and tries to get us to believe in the future. It protrays the fact that een though tragedies happen, you can't let them hold us down, and we can reach out and always find a way out of problems. It's a very hopeful and strong song.

Why did you choose to do this song? Why did it attract your attention/or why do you like it?

I choose this song because it's really sweet and comforting. When you think of it, it's really sweet that a bunch of artists got together in their own time and put together a song about Haiti. The lyrics also come to me as an explanation of life or to never give up. All together, this song is one I'd want to listen to to give em hope or just to know that our society and world cares about these kind of events.

How does the music video help get the protest message across?

Music Video

The music video helps get the message across because of all the pictures and videos of the destruction in Haiti that come inbetween the singers. It really catches your attention when you see how much damage the earthquake really did. You get a urge to want to watch more of the video, but people also watch this video because a lot of famous singers are in it.

Assignment # 2

Theres been a lot of times when my friends and I have been discriminated because of our age. Even though we ment no harm, it was just guessed that we would act in a inappropriate manner. My friends and I had decided to go to Spiro's once because it was one of my friends birthdays, and we were stared at as if we were some aliens and people wispered around us. The parent superviser had booked us our own table and paid the limited amount we were allowd to spend, but we were still treated as if we were just going to cause trouble and attract attention from other customers. First of all, they seated us in a table where they could always be watching, and the waiter only came if we called them more then a few times. Around us were couples and they suspected that we were going to do something inappropriate. Can't a group a of girls talk even a bit at a restaurant? That was only one of the times when we were looked at from a negitive perspective, but it is a very common problem which should be looked at. If teens are always looked at from a negitive perspective and blamed for everything, then teens will try to cause even more trouble because they get mad. Once again, teens should not be discriminated against any right because we have the right to recieve as much respect as every other Canadian citizen.

English assignment # 1

Assignment #1 - If you were the main character in your novel, how would you be dealing with the situation they are currently facing?  Be specific.  What would you be thinking, feeling, and doing?

I am currently reading the book Men of Stone where a 15 year old teenager Ben is being bullied at school as well as having troubles with his friends and family. This is a hard time for Ben but his great Aunt Frieda from Russia comes along and tries to help solve his problems by telling him her stories of Russia and how much she suffered because of the government. So far, Ben has been threatened on the phone and has been receiving notes by Claude(the bully). Ben tries to stay as far away as possible from Claude but that's impossible since Claude always finds a way to irritate Ben somehow. Suddenly Stan runs away last talking to Ben saying something about California because of his parents non stop fighting. Its really hard for Ben to live with all these problems around him since his mom is keeping herself wrapped up and upset from the death of his Dad. Ben tries to know more about his Dad but his mom keeps her feelings and stories inside and never mentions anything so Ben goes to his great Aunt Frieda seeking for answers, but he unfolds more then just dedtils about his dad, he starts understanding the rough times in Russia and his families background.

If I was Ben the I wouldn't be able to hold myself up this much with all these problems. First of all, I would want to seriously get rid of Claude somehow even though it involves parents or teachers. At least that problem would have been gone. Claude probably has as reason for annoying Ben so I would ask him his problems and tell him that if he doesnt stop bullying me then adults would be involved. If Claude still doesnt listen, I would first go to the principle which would more defenitley contact Claudes parents, that would hopefully solve that problem.I would have probably been feeling confused because of all that's going on, and annoyed that no one understands what he's trying to say. I would also try to sooth my mom and try to help her let go her depression and help her start a new life so maybe I could find out more about my dad and live a new life. If my best friend had ran away I wouldn't get all worried, I would actually give him/her some time to be alone and come back after they've recovered their problems and also give all the details of what I knew about Stan and his problems to his parents. Aunt Frieda on the other hand, I would be least worried about but I would try to get closer to her and listen to her stories to make her feel less lonely. That's mainly what I would do if I was the main character in this so far, but their could be other possible answers.
